HISTORY 2005 - 2011
Black Pearl began as a ‘bricks and mortar’ shop, opening in 2005 just off Carnaby Street in central London. It was decorated in the style of a south seas Tiki Hut, but with a good dose of 1950s glamour. The walls and ceiling were entirely covered in bamboo, with decorative touches like leopard print wallpaper, red velvet curtains, a vintage cocktail cabinet and an antique cash register. As well as selling Black Pearl jewellery, the shop also sold lingerie, vintage clothing and accessories. Fiona ran and worked in the shop for six years, but everyone needs a change, right? So in January 2011 she closed the shop and decided to re-vamp the Black Pearl website and concentrate solely on making fabulous jewellery and selling it online. If you are curious as to what the shop looked like (or were a customer and fancy a trip down memory lane) check out this slideshow of photographs of the shop through the years.
THE BLACK PEARL LOGO
The Black Pearl logo of a hand holding a pearl was adapted from a piece of original artwork by tattoo artist Mo Coppoletta. It captures the essence of the brand, combining the exotic and tropical with art deco elegance. True black pearls are prized for their rarity and beauty, each one individual. I hope this is how you feel about you Black Pearl purchases!
